Built cool stuff at a Hackathon thrown by the Microsoft Hololens team - June 17-19th. 40 hours, nonstop.
Team: Food Junkies (with Retura, Tyler, Kevin, Aiden and Dennis)
What we made: We built a whimsical, colorful two player sandbox game inspired by other fun cute things like Little Big Planet, Yoshi's Wooly World and Katamari Damacy. We wanted to utilize spatial mapping to detect planes that would be good surfaces to place game boards and we wanted to go visual heavy since a large portion of our team was designers and artists.
What we learned: Asset management is important. VR app teams have to be way bigger and way more diverse than mobile app teams. The discussion on what makes an idea better for AR vs. VR is a good one. 40 hours isn't a lot of time. It is 100% acceptable to get through the weekend on Redbull and Haribo Goldbears.
Highlights: Hot dog cannons, donut drones, French fry warriors and 10 hours of NyanCat.
